Autonomous Vehicles
To fulfill the true promise of autonomous ground vehicles, AVs need to drive better and more safely than humans. And to do that, machine perception will have to improve on human perception. That will happen in part by using more sensors and information, such as LIDAR, radar, cameras, V2V communication, and high-resolution 3D maps. That will also happen by using the sensors more intelligently.
Humans don’t drive using static sensors. Our brains, informed by multiple sensors (eyes & ears), tell us where to look and when based on data being collected and processed in real time. Machine perception must behave similarly if it is to improve upon human perception. Echodyne is hard at work on a high-performance AV radar that will fundamentally change the way AV developers can interrogate the world to deliver the safest machine perception systems possible.
